A red winged blackbird perches on a small willow branch near the Plarte River, not fat from a large group of roosting Sandhill Cranes. One suspects he is watching the antics of the cranes as they preen, dance, and strut in the shallow water, and wondering when these temporary interlopers will depart for their breeding grounds in the far North.
