Amid the splendor of autumn in the Smoky Mountains, a stand of evergreens has succumbed to disease and will soon disappear from the mountainside. Their passing will create room for new life, and seeds from the surrounding trees will soon take hold of the fertile ground and rise up filling the gap left by their predecessors. Such is the true beauty of nature, life from death in a never ending cycle.
