Opening a Channel
By Mid-February, winter is losing its grip in the Platte River valley and most of the channel ice has melted, but remnants of late season snows still remain on the sandbars. In a week or so the quiet solitude of the river will be interrupted by the masses of migratory waterfowl who use it as an important stop over on their long trip to their nesting areas in the North.
