While the surrounding ravines and pastures remain in shadows, the 4th of July sunrise lights the side of Chimney Rock and the adjacent bluff much the same as when it served as a beacon for early settlers traveling westward on the Oregon and Mormon trails. The scene, rugged yet inspiring, is a reminder of the hardships these travelers faced and the strength of character required to make this difficult journey.
