On the evening of Valentines Day, the full moon rises behind a stand of cottonwood trees in a pasture of the Milldale Ranch. It is beginning of calving season in the Nebraska Sandhills, and the fact that the sandhills are free of significant snow is a welcome situation for both the cows and the cowboys minding the herds.
