An Eastern Kingbird perches on a strand of barbed wire as it surveys its nesting area. Wintering in the Amazon River in South America, these birds return to the North American prairies in the spring to bear and raise their young. An agressive bird when threatened, it will dive at larger intruders and while raising its normally concealed orange,yellow, or red crown of head feathers.
